By Jon Pompia The Pueblo Chieftain Although he boasts a 4.8 weighted and 4.0 unweighted GPA, is second in his class, and earned a coveted Boettcher Scholarship, East High School’s Ryan Bayer cites his most notable high school accomplishments as the little things in life. “I made friends and relationships I will cherish for my life,” he said. “Some of my most memorable relationships are the ones I made within my community involvement. I attempted to involve myself in every volunteering activity I could.” Bayer plans to use his Boettcher endowment — a full ride, four-year scholarship awarded to the state’s top graduating seniors — to attend Colorado State University: the first step to his goal of a career in cardiology. ...

By Greeley Schools Staff Greeley Schools Two Greeley-Evans School District 6 high school seniors are eligible for the prestigious Boettcher Scholarship this year. Mikyla Bowen of Northridge High School was selected to receive the scholarship and Gracejit Chahal of Greeley West High School was chosen as an alternate recipient. The Boettcher Foundation awards 40 scholarships per year that pay the full cost of tuition at any four-year college or university in Colorado, as well as fees, a book allowance and an annual stipend for living expenses. Thousands of students undergo a rigorous application and interview process to compete for this prestigious award. DeJong The Mountain Mail Salida High School chemistry and physical science teacher Todd Bright was honored when Boettcher Scholarship finalist Fin Petit nominated him for a Boettcher teacher recognition award recently. The Boettcher Foundation began recognizing “teachers who have dedicated themselves to providing Colorado students with an outstanding education” in 1992. Each student who makes it to the finalist level of the Boettcher Scholarship application process is asked to nominate a teacher who contributed significantly to their success. ...

The Pueblo West High School senior led the Cyclones in scoring while helping guide the team to the Class 4A Final Four. But what many may not know is that Harris takes that same hard work, dedication and perfectionism into the classroom as well. “My philosophy growing up has always been that I am a student-athlete and not an athlete-student,” Harris said. As much as I love the game of basketball, I understand that ball will stop bouncing at some point in my life and I will rely on my education to start a career.” Harris was named the recipient of the esteemed Boettcher Scholarship. In addition to being awarded the scholarship, Harris has committed to playing basketball and pursuing his studies at Colorado College in Colorado Springs. ...

"We have for the first time demonstrated that obese adolescents with PCOS have an altered gut microbiome compared to girls without PCOS with similar body mass index (BMI), activity level, and dietary habits," write Beza Jobira, MD, and colleagues. ...
