42 Top Students Awarded Boettcher Foundation Scholarships
DENVER, May 3, 2018 — The Boettcher Foundation is pleased to announce its 2018 Class of Boettcher Scholars. The class consists of 42 of Colorado’s top graduating seniors.
“As Boettcher Scholars, these dynamic thinkers and leaders have committed to attending Colorado universities where they will continue using their talents to elevate our communities right here at home,” said Katie Kramer, president and CEO of the Boettcher Foundation.
Established in 1952, the Boettcher Scholarship program annually awards 42 scholarships to graduating high school seniors in Colorado. The four-year scholarship includes virtually all expenses to attend the Colorado school of the recipient’s choice: full tuition, fees, a book allowance, and an annual stipend for living expenses. The scholarship also includes lifelong programming and support to ensure that students reach their full potential as community leaders. Scholars are selected based on academics, service, leadership, and character.
The Boettcher Scholar network includes more than 2,500 leaders who have gone on to make their marks in business, politics, nonprofits, academia, and other endeavors. Among them are a Nobel Prize winner, a MacArthur “Genius Grant” recipient, multiple Rhodes Scholars, U.S. Ambassadors, CEOs, and elected officials.
“Our 2018 Boettcher Scholars were selected from a pool of nearly 1,500 incredibly qualified applicants,” said Tiffany Anderson, director of the scholarship program. “This year’s class includes a young woman who launched a program to engage underrepresented girls in computer science and technology; a young man who cares for a flock of 50 ewes through the livestock business he founded and operates; and a student who is planning a solo world flight with the aim of becoming the youngest pilot to circumnavigate the globe. We’re confident that this year’s class represents the values the Boettcher family sought to encourage.”
In 2015, the Boettcher Foundation increased the number of scholarships awarded annually from 40 to 42, thanks to a generous donation from B. Grady and Lori Durham of Denver.
