David Miller

David Miller is CEO of the Barton Institute for Community Action, a Colorado nonprofit organization. The mission of the Barton Institute is to support leaders and their communities who are working to develop and foster places for opportunity, connection, and belonging in Metro Denver.

Before joining the Barton Institute, David was president and CEO of The Denver Foundation, the oldest and largest community foundation in the Rocky Mountain region. Under his leadership, the assets of The Denver Foundation grew from $58 million to more than $700 million, and donors contributed over $1 billion to The Denver Foundation as a vehicle for their charitable giving.

David is a fifth-generation Denverite and has worked in the public, private, and nonprofit sectors. He served as the Executive Director of the Colorado Office of State Planning and Budgeting and as Denver Mayor Federico Peña’s Chief of Staff. He then was a principal at the strategic communications consulting firm GBSM.

David and his wife Lisa Farber Miller have two children and four grandchildren.

Favorite Colorado Experience:

Hiking and skiing with multiple generations of his family.

Fun Fact:

An avid music fan, David saw the Beatles at Red Rocks when he was 10 and saw Jimi Hendrix at the Regis College Field House when he was 13.
