Pamela Shockley-Zalabak

Pam Shockley-Zalabak is president of CommuniCon Inc. and chancellor emerita of the University of Colorado — Colorado Springs, although her varied roles have also included professor of communication, grandmother, author, television producer, and student advocate.

Pam served as CEO of the US Olympic & Paralympic Museum and Fall of Fame and currently is working a a major watershed revitalization project for the Pikes Peak Region. As chancellor for 15 years, Pam continued to teach and research with students while simultaneously leading the university. She is the author of nine books and more than 100 articles and productions focusing on organizational communication. Her most recent book, Building High-Trust CommUNITY :  Lessons Learned from the Past and the Year 2020 was published in 2022. She focuses her research on organizational trust, and her most recent book, “Fundamentals of Organizational Communication,” was published in 2015.

Born in Texas and raised in Oklahoma, Pam earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in communication from Oklahoma State University, Stillwater. Later, she earned a PhD in Organizational Communication from University of Colorado Boulder.

Pam is the recipient of several awards, including the Chancellor’s Award for Distinguished Faculty, The Colorado Springs Lifetime Achievement Award, the 2005 Student Choice for Instructor of the Year, the 2008 Colorado Springs Business Journal Women of Influence Award, the 2013 Pikes Peak Range Riders Silver Spur Award, the S. Jerrard Smith award for contributions to the community, the American Red Cross Humanitarian of the Year Award, 2023 Business Journal Woman of Influence, Business Journal Legacy Award, and the 2023 Thayer Tutt Sportsman Award.

She is an avid sports fan and a classical music enthusiast. She loves hiking and large-animal wildlife photography.

Favorite Colorado Experience:

If I had to pick just one experience, it would be some of my early memories of traveling from my family’s home in Oklahoma to Aspen for fly fishing and the music festival.
